40 mm pipe clip STL for waste pipe and workshop dust hose

The largest clip in this set of pages: a wide two-tab saddle for pipe or hose that measures 40 mm across. The STL is generated by software from the values below, so a 41 or 43 mm pipe is a one-field change.

What to measure

Take the outside diameter with a caliper that opens far enough, or use a paper strip around the pipe: 125.7 mm of circumference is 40 mm of diameter. Waste pipe sold as 40 mm is usually wider than its name, typically about 41 mm for push-fit and 43 mm for solvent-weld pipe. Workshop vacuum and dust extraction hoses are less predictable still, and a ribbed hose has to be measured over the ribs. If the clip is meant to grip the rigid cuff at the end of a hose, measure the cuff near its middle, because most cuffs are tapered.

Clearance, wall and material

This page sets the clearance to 0.4 mm, a bore of 40.4 mm, with a 3.2 mm wall. For a rigid pipe in PLA that is a firm snap; in PETG 0.3 mm is enough. For a flexible ribbed hose, which should lift out with one hand, use 1 mm or more and treat the clip as a cradle. The opening angle is raised to 110 degrees. On a clip this size the arms are thick and long, and at the standard opening the force needed to press a rigid pipe in becomes uncomfortable and can crack PLA at the root of an arm.

Printing

Print on a C-shaped face so the layers run around the bore. The part then covers about 91 by 37 mm of the bed and stands 24 mm tall. No supports are needed. Use a 0.2 mm layer height, or 0.28 mm if you are printing many of them: the coarser layer is acceptable here because nothing has to slide in the bore. Set five perimeters so the 3.2 mm wall is solid. Expect roughly four to five times the plastic of a 20 mm clip, so check the volume shown by the generator before queuing a batch.

Fixing it

Each tab is 22 mm long and 4 mm thick with a 5 mm hole. Use both screws, into something solid: a filled 40 mm pipe is heavy, and the clip is not rated for any load. For a long horizontal run, let proper pipe brackets carry the weight and use printed clips to hold the line.

The pipe and cable clip needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
