Three quarter inch pipe clip STL, built for a 22.2 mm outside diameter

A two-screw clip for nominal 3/4 inch copper water tube and PEX, which measure 22.2 mm outside. Other pipes called three quarter inch are up to 4.5 mm larger, so this page also tells you which number to type for those. The STL is generated by software from your own measurement of the outer diameter.

Which three quarter inch do you have

The name is nominal, and the outside diameter depends on the family of pipe. Nominal 3/4 inch copper water tube is 0.875 inch outside, which is 22.2 mm, and PEX and CPVC in the same tube sizes match it. That is what this page builds. Nominal 3/4 inch iron pipe and schedule 40 PVC is 1.050 inch, 26.7 mm. Thin-wall electrical conduit of the 3/4 inch trade size is about 23.4 mm. Tube and rod sold by real outside diameter is 19.05 mm. A garden hose described as three quarter inch is named for its bore and can be 25 mm or more on the outside.

What to measure

Measure the outer diameter of the pipe with a caliper, on a clean, straight section, and read it in millimetres. Near 22.2, use the values on this page. Near 26.7, 23.4 or 19.05, follow the link and replace the diameter with what you measured; the wall, tabs and opening here still suit that range. A 22 mm metric copper tube is only 0.2 mm smaller than this one and fits the same clip, slightly looser, so one print can serve both. With no caliper, wrap a paper strip around the pipe and divide the marked length by 3.1416: about 70 mm of strip means 22.2 mm.

Clearance, wall and material

The clearance is 0.3 mm, for a bore of 22.5 mm. The wall is 2.4 mm and the opening 100 degrees, leaving a gap of about 17.2 mm for the pipe to snap through. On a water heater outlet or a hydronic loop the pipe is hot, and PLA softens at around 60 degrees C: use PETG or ASA there. For a pipe that runs hot all the time, a printed clip of any common filament is not a dependable choice and a metal or purpose-made hanger is the safer one.

Printing and fixing

Stand the clip on a C-shaped face. It covers about 59 by 23 mm and is 16 mm tall, and needs no supports. Four perimeters at 0.2 mm layers make the 2.4 mm wall and the 3 mm tabs solid. Each tab is 16 mm long with a 4.2 mm hole for a number 8 or 4 mm screw. Two tabs keep the clip square when the pipe is pressed in, which helps under a joist where you are working overhead. Leave PEX free to slide lengthways, and follow your local code for how far apart supports may be.

The pipe and cable clip needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
