3x2 bin STL compatible with Gridfinity grid dimensions, six compartments

A bin three cells by two on the 42 mm grid, 125.5 by 83.5 mm and 49 mm high, divided into six pockets for one family of fasteners in six sizes. The STL is generated by software from the values below, with no third-party model files.

One sorted bin instead of six loose ones

Six 1x1 bins cover the same six cells, but they are six things to carry. One 3x2 bin with dividers is a single rigid piece that lifts out to the bench with every size of a screw family in it: M3 from 6 to 30 mm, say, or wood screws by length. Each pocket is about 40 by 39.6 mm inside and 43 mm deep, a volume of roughly 68 cubic centimetres. Because the compartments are independent of the grid, you can also set 2 across and 1 deep for two large pockets on the same footprint.

What to measure

The footprint is fixed by the grid, so measure height and reach. Height first: 49 mm is seven steps of 7 mm, and the drawer has to clear it with the base plate underneath. Then reach: a pocket 43 mm deep and 40 mm wide is about the limit for picking a single small screw off the floor with two fingers. For tiny parts, lower the bin to 28 or 35 mm; for long bolts stood on end, keep the height and accept that you will pour instead of pick.

Clearance, wall and material

Clearance to the grid is 0.5 mm. The outer wall is 1.6 mm and the dividers 1.2 mm. The dividers do structural work here: they tie the two 125 mm walls together at two points and the 83 mm walls at one, so the outer wall could be thinner, but a bin full of steel screws can weigh a kilogram and is carried by its rim, so the extra 0.4 mm stays. There are six plain square feet and no stacking lip.

Printing

Print feet down. Dividers make a lot of short travel moves, so tune retraction first or expect fine strings across the pockets in PETG; PLA strings less. The floor bridges the 6.4 mm channels between feet in both directions. At 0.2 mm layers this is a print of several hours: let the first layer finish and look at all six feet before leaving it.

The bin on a 42 mm base grid needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
