4x2 bin STL compatible with Gridfinity grid dimensions, four lanes

A large bin, four cells by two on the 42 mm grid: 167.5 by 83.5 mm, 42 mm high, split lengthwise into four lanes. The STL is generated by software from the values below, with no third-party model files.

Four lanes, not eight squares

A 4x2 footprint invites eight square pockets, and for screws that is right. This page sets four compartments across and one deep instead, which gives four lanes of about 40.2 by 80.3 mm. A lane holds what a square cannot: drill bits up to 80 mm, taps, a row of wall plugs, batteries lying nose to tail, a pair of tweezers. Change the compartments deep to 2 for the eight-square version on the same link.

What to measure

Start with your printer. At 167.5 mm this bin fits a 180 mm bed with about 6 mm to spare on each side and nothing smaller; on a larger bed there is no issue. Then measure the drawer or base plate: four cells need 168 mm of clear plate in one direction. Last, the height. With 42 mm overall, the lanes are 35.65 mm deep after the feet and the floor.

Clearance, wall and material

The clearance to the grid stays at 0.5 mm. The outer wall is 1.6 mm, the dividers 1.2 mm, and the floor is raised to 1.6 mm from the 1.2 mm used on the smaller bins. The floor of a bin this size bridges the channels between eight feet, and a full load of metal parts rests on those bridges; at 0.2 mm layers the thicker floor is eight layers instead of six over each channel. There is no stacking lip.

Printing

Print feet down. The risk at this size is warping: the corner feet of a 167 mm part lift first, and a lifted foot means the bin rocks in the base plate for ever. Clean the bed, use a brim on the outer feet if your material tends to curl, and keep draughts off the printer. PLA warps least. The three dividers run the short way across the bin, each 80 mm long, and print as thin free-standing walls from the floor up, so slow the first few layers above the floor to let them bond.

The bin on a 42 mm base grid needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
