Screwdriver rack STL for 6 screwdrivers, wall mounted

A 168 mm shelf with six holes and a back wall that screws to the wall or a board. The drivers hang by their handles. The STL is generated by software from the values below, which you set from your own tools.

What to measure

Three numbers from your own set. First, the thickest shaft: measure it with a caliper, and on drivers with a hexagonal bolster under the handle measure across the corners of the bolster, since that has to pass through the hole too. Second, the narrowest handle, at the point where it would rest on the shelf: the hole must be smaller than this or the driver drops through. Third, the widest handle, which sets the spacing. The hole diameter goes between the first two numbers; the spacing is the third plus 3 mm or more.

Clearance, thickness and material

The values here suit a typical household set: 9 mm holes take shafts up to 8 mm with room to spare, and 28 mm between centres clears handles up to about 25 mm wide. A loose hole is what you want on a rack, so allow a clearance of 1 mm or more over the shaft; there is no reason for a snug fit. The shelf is 5 mm thick and stands 32 mm out from the 4 mm back wall, with the holes in the middle of the shelf. PETG is the better material, because the shelf is a small cantilever under constant load and PLA slowly creeps under that. In PLA, raise the shelf thickness to 6 mm.

Printing

Print the rack resting on its back wall, with the shelf rising straight up from the bed. In that position the layers run continuously through the corner where the shelf meets the wall, which is where the load is. Printed the other way, shelf flat and wall rising, the wall can snap off along a layer line. The 9 mm tool holes become short horizontal bores and need no supports; neither do the 4.5 mm mounting holes. Use a 0.2 mm layer height, four perimeters and 30 percent infill or more. At 168 mm long the rack fits any common bed.

Fixing it

Two 4.5 mm holes sit near the two ends of the back wall, above the shelf, for 4 mm screws. Use wall plugs suited to your wall. The rack is not load-rated: six ordinary screwdrivers are a light load, but do not hang hammers or cordless tools from it.

The screwdriver rack needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
