STL generator / Parts by size

1x1 bin STL compatible with Gridfinity grid dimensions

A single-cell bin on the 42 mm grid, 41.5 mm square and 28 mm high, with one plain square foot. The STL is generated by software from the values below; no third-party model files or profiles are used.

What this bin is, and is not

It matches the grid dimensions only: a 42 mm cell pitch and a foot under the cell. The foot is a plain square pad with vertical sides, 35.6 mm wide and 4.75 mm high, not the stepped profile of the original design, and the rim has no stacking lip. The bin sits in a 42 mm base plate and stays in its cell, but other bins do not lock on top of it. This generator is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Gridfinity project.

What to measure

The cell size is fixed by the grid, so the measuring is about height and your base plate. Measure the space above the base plate, for example the inner height of the drawer minus the plate, and keep the bin a few millimetres below it. Bins on this grid are commonly made in 7 mm height steps; 28 mm is four steps and leaves about 22 mm of usable depth inside. Then measure one pocket of your own base plate across its opening at the bottom. If it is less than about 36 mm, raise the foot inset so the foot gets smaller.

Clearance, wall and material

The clearance to the grid is 0.5 mm, taken off the outer size, so the bin is 41.5 mm square and neighbours have a 0.5 mm gap between them. In PLA that is a free fit. PETG parts often come out a little fatter at the corners; if bins bind against each other, use 0.6 or 0.7 mm. Wall and floor are 1.2 mm, three passes of a 0.4 mm nozzle, which is rigid enough for a bin this small. One compartment is set here; a 1x1 bin split in two gives compartments under 19 mm wide, useful only for very small parts.

Printing

Print with the foot on the bed. The floor of the bin overhangs the foot by about 3 mm all round as a flat ledge 4.75 mm above the bed. Most printers bridge that acceptably with a slightly rough underside; switch supports on if you want it crisp. Use a 0.2 mm layer height. Print one bin and try it in your base plate before printing a batch, because base plates from different sources vary slightly.

This model needs the $7 licence key: one payment, one key, and it opens all five paid models. Get a licence key on Gumroad ($7)

The bin on a 42 mm base grid needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
