How a 1x2 differs from a 2x1
On the base plate the two are the same footprint turned a quarter turn, and a finished 2x1 bin can simply be rotated. The difference is in the generator, where the cells across and the cells deep are separate numbers and the compartments are split along each of them independently. Starting from 1 across and 2 deep means the inner divisions you add later run the way you expect: set the compartments deep to 2 and you get a front pocket and a back pocket; set the compartments across to 2 and you get two narrow lanes, each about 19 mm wide, running front to back. This page leaves the bin undivided, as one slot 39.1 mm wide and 81.1 mm long.
What to measure
Measure the things that will lie in the slot. It takes items up to 81 mm long laid straight, or about 90 mm on the diagonal: marker pens cut short do not fit, but drill bits up to 6 mm in their usual lengths, taps, short pencils, glue sticks, a box cutter and blister strips of small parts do. Then measure the height of the drawer above the base plate. At 42 mm, six steps of 7 mm, the bin has 36 mm of depth inside after the 4.75 mm feet and the 1.2 mm floor.
Clearance, wall and material
The clearance to the grid is 0.5 mm, taken off each outer size once, so the bin is 41.5 mm where one cell is 42 and 83.5 mm where two are 84. The outer wall and floor are 1.2 mm, three lines of a 0.4 mm nozzle. An undivided 81 mm wall at that thickness flexes slightly if squeezed, which does no harm in a drawer; raise it to 1.6 mm for a bin that is carried about. The bin has two plain square feet, each 35.6 mm, and no stacking lip. PLA is fine.
Printing
Print with the feet on the bed. Between the two feet the floor crosses a 6.4 mm channel as a bridge, which every printer manages without help. Around the outside of the feet there is a flat ledge about 3 mm wide printed over air; it may droop a little, and that does not affect how the bin sits. The print takes roughly an hour and a half at 0.2 mm layers. Try the first bin in your own base plate before making a batch, because base plates from different sources vary by a few tenths.

The bin on a 42 mm base grid needs a licence key: without one the generator shows the model locked, lists the values from this link and fills them in as soon as you unlock. The fitted drawer organiser bin is the free model and downloads with no key.
